Tactics: The Villager Rush

You may get a pleasant surprise when you first encounter this technique, and 9 times out of 10 (depending on your strategy in the first 5-10 minutes) will almost inevitably succumb to it. Non-AI (human) players have the benefit of being more creative and unorthodox than their AI counterparts, giving rise to this technique.

Essentially this involves creating as many villagers as possible at the start of the game, and possibly some accompanying troops from the barracks, and rushing your opponents town center. With 20+ villagers and troops, they will attempt to destroy your town center.

The damage they inflict will be enough to destroy it, albeit you can use some of your upgrades to make your town center more resilient. If you have no troops, your best line of defense if using your own villagers to kill theirs, and if you have troops of your own that should prove to be slightly easier. Unfortunately, your villagers will act in a non-aggressive manner, and will only kill the specific targets you select, rather than being hostile to all enemy units nearby, so be sure to systematically target each enemy villager/unit to kill them.

An unsuccessful rush followed by a successful one

It's a very risky strategy, because if you manage to overcome it, your opponent is a sitting duck, and will probably resign given the craziness of the approach!

It pays to get some troops made as soon as possible to counteract this possible threat.

In the video shown here, the player luckily manages to save his town center after a couple of seemingly correct but delayed decision making.
