Game Developers Aim to Swoop on Social Networking Market
Page last updated on 2011 / 02 / 08The dramatic rise of social networking in the past decade, alongside a gradual integration of games within them has prompted games developers to evaluate how they can step in and cash in on the market.
While social networking was traditionally for just that, talking to other people, social networks have become increasingly sophisticated and varied in regards to the way people can spend time on their sites. Farmville, a games application for facebook, is played online by millions (and detested by just as many?). Apparently, traditional gaming sites have lost users to social networks; whose players either can't be bothered to load two websites or would prefer to play with friends.
In response, the gaming industry is hosting a two day summit to evaluate how they can tap into this growing trend.
BBC news has an article elaborating on this sea change in online gaming for the masses.
