The NY Daily News has an article considering whether some of the big budget games of today were really worth all that money.

Over the past 30 years, the gaming industry has evolved from geeky programmers in their back bedroom creating games like Dizzy, Pacman and Jet Set Willy... to a multi-billion dollar market, and one of the pillars of modern entertainment.

This has led to the creation of games costing in the region of US $50 million, equivalent to a respectable Hollywood movie.
