OnLive Launches in June to Rival Consoles
Page last updated on 2011 / 02 / 08The way video games are played could be revolutionised by the launch of an "on-demand" service called OnLive, who will offer gameplay without the need to download.
Instead of buying a hard copy of a game, or downloading online, OnLive users will be able to play simply by choosing the game they wish to play. This new method is reliant on distant servers processing the video output of the games being played, meaning that users do not rely a high end computer with a top-notch graphics card in order to play.
The servers used can be no further than 1000 miles away from the user, to avoid latency issues (lagging) while playing. (This may mean that users in more remote communities may miss out in the initial roll out).
The BBC currently has an article on OnLive, describing the service as a 'console killer'.
