Infantry Units
Page last updated on 2011 / 02 / 08When you attack a city that has sufficient numbers of defenders, a land-battle commences, where you will find yourself somewhere in the vicinity of the city, with your divisions of troops facing a small army of defenders looking to wipe you out before you get a chance to enter the city.
You will have at your disposal a number of unique groups of men, equipped to fight at close or long combat, against similarly equipped defenders.
| Artillery is an enemy unit only, rarely seen but deadly. Artillery can range attack up to eight squares in distance but requires a line of sight (it cannot fire through trees). Vulnerable at close range, you will want to snuff out the artillery threat by sneaking up through forested area. | |
| Axemen are native units that are effective at close range, and can either fight for you or the enemy. | |
| Bowmen are also native units that are effective both at close range and distance, with the ability to range attack up to two squares away. Bowmen can appear on both sides of the battlefield just like axemen. | |
| Buccaneers are your crew armed with muskets who are only effective at distance, with the ability to attack up to four squares away providing there is line of sight. | |
| Cavalry are enemy units only effective at close range and in open terrain, suffering a performance penalty when attacked under tree cover. | |
| Guard Units are enemy units effective at close and long range, being able to attack with swords up close and muskets to attack at distance, with a range of two squares. | |
| Infantry are very much similar to guard units, the fodder of enemy lines that can at attack at short and long range. | |
| Officers are your elite pirates that can only fight at close range, but typically have a superior chance of winning in those battles. | |
| Pirates! are your motley crew, fighting at close range. |
Regardless of who and what you face, you will want to use the terrain to your advantage, and maximise the use of your buccaneers who can attack long range. A skillful use of your long range weapons can minimise casualties on your side.
