Military units are the ultimate goal of your kingdom, your strong economy should aim to creating as many strong military units as possible to defend your realm and attack your enemies.
Military units area created at the stronghold, though can be created at several other buildings, most notably the tavern where you can create pikemen and musketeers in exchange for gold.

Religious Units
Religious units are created at the church and are responsible for performing scientific research for your kingdom. They can also be stationed in sectors to increase the defensive capability of your troops there.

Trading Units
Trading units are created at the export office and are responsible for finding new trading outposts and trading goods. Initially, you can trade 3 garment for 4 coin or 2 jewellery for 4 coin. By using your traders, you can find new trading outposts which will offer you further trading opportunities that you can find beneifical.
